Abstract

Controlling insects and diseases infesting agricultural crops by using botanical pesticides has
increased due to negative impact of chemical pesticides to the environment. The objectives of this experiment
were to evaluate in vitro inhibitory effects of clove oil and leaf powder on growth of Colletotrichum capsici
colonies. Various concentrations of these botanical pesticides were added into PDA agar medium and fungal
inoculum was planted on the selective medium. Growth of the C. capsici colonies on medium containing
botanical pesticides was compared to one on medium without pesticides and used to determine the inhibitory
effect. Results of the experiments showed complete inhibition of growth of C. capsici colonies was achieved
by clove oil at 0.06%, respectively. On the other hand, complete inhibition of growth of C. capsici was
achieved by adition of clove leaf powder at 1%. These results indicated clove oil and leaf powder may be
used to control C. capsici.
