IDENTIFIKASI JAMBU METE UNGGUL ASAL KABUPATEN BUTON, SULAWESI TENGGARA

Ni Wayan Sri Suliartini, Hamirullah Hadini

Abstract

In average, the cashew nut production of Indonesia was lower compared to those of other
countries, like Brasil, India, and Australia. This was due to low productivity of clones planted Indonesia.
The low productivity of those clone was mainly resulted from high hermaprodit flowers of these clones
(< 20%). A study for identification and description of cashew clones planted in Kabupaten Buton was
conducted in order to find the clones with superior properties. Based on the mature cashew fruit
characteristies i.e colour, size, dimention; it was found that the cashew plant with red fruit colour generates
more that 20% of hermaprodit flowers, with lower nut size (< 10gnut -1) and lower nut production (< 500kg
ha -1). On the other hand, the cashew plant with yellow fruit generated hermaprodit flowers less than 20%,
bigger nut size (> 10g nut -1), and higher (> 500kg ha -1) nut production.
