Abstract

One of many efforts to enhance corn yield in breeding program is engineering of hybrid cultivar expected to have higher yield. This engineering procedure is to evaluate performance of yield and yield components. In Muneng Probolinggo, East Java, twenty hybrid genotypes were evaluated to reveal degree of closeness among characters, yield performance and yield components. Results indicated that there were positive interactions between yield and yield components. Specifically those interactions were number of growing with harvesting plant, number with weight of harvested ear, number of harvested plant with ear, weight with position of harvested ear, number with weight of harvested ear, moisture content with DTA, plant height with ear position and DTA, DTS with DTA and ASI. There were five genotypes with yield potential higher than Bima-1 cultivar, namely N-97, N-23, N-157, N-22 and N-79. There were also 16 genotypes yielding higher than P7 cultivar. N-97 and N-23 genotypes had high yield potential due to their higher yield potentials than comparison cultivar.
