Abstract


Cultivation of vegetables within passion fruit planting is one alternative to increase income of passion fruit farmer. There are many kinds of vegetables to choose, since its seed was wide available in market. Therefore, an experiment is needed to obtain kinds of vegetables that are feasible to develop within passion fruit planting from agronomic, economic as well as environmental view. Experiment was conducted in Gunung Perak-Sinjai Barat, Sinjai from April 2000 to March 2001. It was arranged in randomized complete block design, consisted of five kinds of vegetables as treatments, i.e. potato, cabbage, mustard greens, red pepper and tomato; with three replications. Results showed that (1) vegetables did not affect passion fruit growth; (2) vegetables cultivated within passion fruit planting, gave high yield, i.e. 22.1 t ha-1 for potato, 81.6 t ha-1 for cabbage and 40.6 t ha-1 for mustard greens; (3) vegetables planting within passion fruit planting were profitable enough, i.e. Rp Rp 2,829,000 for potato, Rp 1,360,500 for cabbage and Rp 130,500 for mustard greens with farming area of 3,000m2 and (4) plant material especially vegetables seed to be utilize needed to be scrutinized to avoid new pest and disease carried within seed.
