Abstract
The rabbit-fish, Siganus sutor (Valenciennes, 1853) is reported for the first time
from the Mandar Bay, Sulawesi, Indonesia. The study was conducted on September
2005. S. sutor has been misidentified as S. canaliculatus or S. fuscescens because oftheir body appearance and coloration. However, S. sutor can be distinguished from S.canaliculatus
and S. fuscescens on the basis of differences in number of scale rowabove the lateral line and number and pattern of spots on body. Systematic characters
of the species were examined and then compared with the previous study.
