Abstract
Body measurements were collected from 144 heads of Bali cattle and 171 heads
of Brahman Cross cattle at the regencies of Takalar, Bone and Sidrap in the province of
South Sulawesi, from 2000 to 2005. The purpose of experiment was to determine the
equations for estimating body weight (BB) based on body measurements such as chest
girth (LD), body length (PB), hip height (TPG) and withers height (TPD). The data
were analysed according to multiple regression equation with Program StatisticalPackage for Social Science (SPSS) 10.0 for windows. The results of experimentindicated that the highest correlation coefficient between BB with body measurements
was PB for Bali and LD for Brahman Cross cattle. The mean difference between the
actual and the estimated BB according to LD, PB, TPG and TPD was 12% and 9% for
Bali and Brahman Cross cattle, respectively.
