PERFORMANS PRODUKSI SAPI PERAH DI KABUPATEN ENREKANG SULAWESI SELATAN
Abstract
The research aiming to investigate the population performance of dairy cattle in
Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi, had been conducted in 2004. Data for population
structures were obtained by interviewing 50 farmers, while milk production
performance was measured using samples of 20 Fries Holland (FH) and 20 Sahiwal
Cross (SC) having different levels of lactation periods. The results of experiment
indicated that population structure for both dairy cattle breeds was dam 47.96%, bull
4.09%, heifer 15.79%, daughter 21.64% and son 10.52%. Average of birth rate of FH
was higher than that of SC (82.6% vs 60.0%) averaging 71.30%. Moreover, lactation
period had a highly significant effect on milk production, in which the milk yield in the
fourth lactation period was higher (P < 0.01) than that on the third, the fifth, and the
sixth lactation period, for both FH and SC.
