Abstract
An experiment was conducted to determine the relationship between soils pH and
plant calcium content to dry matter weight in Stylosantes guyanensis (stylo), using
three calcium: compounds i.e. CaMg(C03)2, CaHP04 and CaS04 as calcium sources. .
The three calcium compounds that yielded different soil pH and plant calcium
contents were applied into the soil at the rates of 0,2.65 and 5.30 g/pot of calcium),
respectively. Application of CaMg(C03)2 resulted in the highest level of soil pH and
plant calcium content but produced the lowest dry matter yield in stylo. The highest
dry matter yield was obtained when the plant grown in neutral soil pH and moderate plant calcium as resulted from application of CaHP04. It appears that dry matter yield
in stylo was more correlated to soil pH than to plant calcium content.
